A sizeable manufacturer of surgery equipment is using a manufacturing intelligence application by DataNet Quality Systems to help consistently deliver safe precision surgical instruments.
The surgery equipment company is using DataNet Quality System’s QualTrend browser-based application to deliver the most relevant quality statistics to key organizational personnel on easy-to-read summary reports.
Internally, the company emphasizes reducing costs and reducing lead time for its customers. One of its ways of accomplishing this is lean manufacturing methods. Over 90 percent of its machines are covered by statistical process control. Quality control at the point of production is one of its key methods for delivering safe precision surgical equipment.
The company uses QualTrend to collate and display production Cpk and Ppk statistics contained in the connected WinSPC real-time shop floor monitoring system. Managers use charts and reports to get a summary of performance including a pareto chart used to determine a Statemtent of Capability report and the weakest production process.
QualTrend allows the company to easily produce critical production metrics and share them at many levels across the organization. This allows for more ubiquitous understanding of production issues and can help Quality personnel sell needed improvement initiatives.
The company is also learning how line workers perform and how changing to a new job number affects process performance. QualTrend’s search feature allows process data to be filtered by the name of the worker on the line at the time, and other criteria.
